We were banking after take-off when I saw the speedboat on the canal. I tried to capture it between the two bridges. This was the best I could do in 1/125 sec. at 475–500 knots with a moving target.

The vapour trail seems to almost tear the photo in half. The sun was just out of sight over the roofs to my left, still illuminating the upper part of the building to my right. The composition was all there so I took the shot.

Blue Moon, Piazzale Bucintoro 1 – 30126 Lido Di Venezia.
Shadow triangles move slowly across the wooden decking as the sun moves across the sky.
The ‘Blue Moon’ was designed by Giancarlo de Carlo (1919-2005), professor emeritus at the Venice School of Architecture (Università Iuav di Venezia), founded in 1926 as the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia.
The building project began in 1995 and the main construction was completed by 2002.
It stands at the intersection between the Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta (a road that crosses the Lido from the point where passengers from Venice disembark) and the coast road that goes from the Murazzi to the sand dunes of San Nicolò and serves the spiaggia comunale (public beach) at the northern end of the Lido. https://witness.theguardian.com/assignment/55718213e4b019d982cba15c/1563276

The 48m high Garisenda Tower was built around the same time as the Asinelli tower standing next to it. There is no public access.

Salisbury Cathedral from Pepperbox Hill.
Just the start of a long walk into wooded countryside. Pepperbox Hill is the site of the Pepperbox, an octagonal brick tower built in 1606 by a local landowner, Gyles Eyre. A stroll in the park just before dusk, camera ever ready. For a few seconds, the sun shone through a break in the cloud that was obscuring it. 3749 Ponte Chiodo, 30121 Venezia, from the 1969 film ‘Slogan’, accessible from the famous Bridge with no Parapet crossing Rio San Felice.
The door on the right, with three steps leading down into the water, is the entrance to the guest house, 3749 Ponte Chiodo. The building and the bridge appear in the 1969 film, ‘Slogan’ (on the set of which the stars Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin first met) where one of the minor characters performs a handstand, from the boat in which he and the stars are travelling, onto the bridge. It’s a film worth seeing if only for the crazy speedboat ride through the canals of Venice. The lion above the Porta Magna and the Rio dell’arsenale entrance towers to the Arsenale di Venezia, Castello, 30122 Venezia from the 1954 film ‘Senso’.
The film starred Alida Valli as La Contessa Livia Serpieri and Farley Granger as Franz Mahler and was directed by Luchino Visconti who had hoped to cast Ingrid Bergman and Marlon Brando in the lead roles. In the film, the Contessa searches for Mahler at the Porta Magna. Carcassonne, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France from the 1991 film ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’.
